About AmeriCorps:

AmeriCorps is a dynamic opportunity for national service provided by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), Habitat for Humanity International, in partnership with CNCS provides hundreds of national service opportunities for people of diverse ages and backgrounds.   Each year there are approximately 75,000 opportunities to serve though AmeriCorps.

AmeriCorps is made up of three main programs:

  • AmeriCorps State and National supports a broad range of local service programs that engage thousands of Americans in intensive service to meet critical community needs.
  • AmeriCorps VISTA which stands for Volunteer in Service to America, provides full-time members to community organizations and public agencies to create and expand programs that build capacity and ultimately bring low-income individuals and communities out of poverty.
  • AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps) is a full-time residential program for men and women, ages 18-24 that strengthens communities while developing leaders through direct, team-based national and community service.

About Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County’s AmeriCorps program:

Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, MD partners with AmeriCorps State and National and AmeriCorps VISTA to provide meaningful opportunities for national services to those interested in serving the Montgomery County community and engaging with Habitat for Humanity. 

Our first AmeriCorps VISTA member served with the affiliate from 2004-2005. Since 2004, 23 individuals have served with HFH-MC and have made meaningful contributions to Volunteer and Family Services (including Youth Programs), Construction, Development and Habitat ReStore.  HFH-MC will host 4 AmeriCorps members for the 2010-2011 service year.
