Legislative Victories:
Thanks to the efforts of our staff members, volunteers, and supporters, Habitat for Humanity has made tremendous progress in promoting affordable, decent housing for all.Serve America Act of 2009:
Last year, thanks to much support from Habitat advocates, bipartisan majorities in Congress passed the Serve America Act, and President Obama signed it into law. This helps set the stage to triple the number of volunteers who work with Habitat and other organizations. Habitat advocates continue to work to gain funding for the law.HUD Issues Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act (SAFE Act) Clarification For Nonprofits:
The Department of Housing and Urban Development issued the SAFE Act Final Rule, which provides for a full exemption for bona fide nonprofits such as Habitat affiliates. Neither Habitat volunteers, nor employees acting in the normal course of Habitat's work, will need to meet the licensing or registration requirements of the federal mortgage licensing rule, known as the SAFE Act because HFH-MC's mission promotes affordable homeownership, and our business does not focus on orginating loans.Habitat for Humanity International Advocacy Resources:
